Mandibular reconstruction

Mandibular tumors represent an anatomical and functional alteration of the patient. There are growth malformations that require removal (extensive tumors) and large mandibular lesions that result in bone defects that leave aesthetic and functional sequelae.

What is it?

Jaw reconstruction involves recreating the injured or missing tissues’ shape, appearance, and function. We have prostheses designed from the patient’s tomography, which allows them to be fully customized, considering the current bone structure and the oral situation in case of loss of teeth. According to the type of mandibular defect (location and extension), we define the approach for the reconstruction and the kind of prosthesis material.

A diagnosis can be made by biopsy when there is a change in the coloration of the oral cavity or an increase in the volume.

If you have had radiotherapy or chemotherapy or are under medication that prevents bone resorption (e.g., bisphosphonates), it is essential that you schedule an appointment.

It is reconstructed with biocompatible titanium implants and plates, as well as with micro vascularized grafts that restore mandibular function and appearance.
